If you’ve reported a problem to our support team, they may ask you to send in a backup of your app data for analysis. Here’s how to do that:
On either the app home screen or project home screen, tap “Settings”:
On the “Settings” screen, tap “Export Backup File”:
Choose the type of backup you want to export:
- Everything backups include the entire state of the app, including recorded survey data and attachment files (i.e. photographs). This is the ideal type of backup but it can take a long time to create/transfer it.
- Database backups include the app’s entire current state without any attachments. This significantly decreases the time taken to create the backup file.
- Survey Backups are a backup of a backup. The app keeps track of every survey recorded, even after you sign out and in again. Use this if you want to make absolutely sure you export the survey data you’ve recorded.
- Attachments exports only the photographs you’ve taken. These are also saved in your camera reel, but the attachments backup includes metadata that’s useful for uploading them to the correct places in Cartographer.
Share the ZIP file (called something like “cartographer-mobile-archive.zip”) with us in any way you can:
Methods for sharing files vary from device to device. If the file is small enough you may be able to email it to us. If you have lots of images, however, it may be easier to share it via Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, or Google Drive.
The ZIP file contains a copy of every survey and attachment you’ve viewed or edited in your app. Our support team can use it to restore any un-uploaded data in the event there is a persistent problem with your app.
