Creating an integration is a short guided wizard. You'll name it, connect to ArcGIS Online, and choose where the data should go. The new integration starts out paused, so nothing syncs until you're ready.
To begin, open your project's ArcGIS Integrations list (see Finding Your Project's ArcGIS Integrations) and click Add. The wizard has four steps shown along the top: Name & Source → Connect ArcGIS → Destination → Filters & Start.
Step 1 — Name & Source
Choose what you're publishing and give the integration a name.
- Pick the Cartographer source layer — the map layer whose data you want to send to ArcGIS. The list shows each map and the layer within it.
- Give the integration a name. Cartographer suggests one based on the layer you picked, but you can change it to anything memorable (e.g. “Water Quality for Data Hub”). This name appears in the integrations list and in any notification emails.
- Click Next: Connect ArcGIS.
Step 2 — Connect ArcGIS
Cartographer needs permission to work with hosted feature layers in your ArcGIS Online organisation.
- Read the list of permissions Cartographer will be granted. It will be able to:
- read your list of hosted feature layers,
- create new feature layers in your account,
- add, edit, and delete features in the layers it syncs to, and
- adjust the schema (columns) of those layers to match the source.
- Click Connect ArcGIS Online.
- You'll be taken to ArcGIS Online to sign in and approve access, then returned to Cartographer.
Step 3 — Destination
Tell Cartographer where in ArcGIS Online the data should go:
There are two options:
Create a new layer for this integration (recommended). Cartographer creates and owns a brand-new layer, so there's no risk of overwriting existing data. Just give the new layer a title.
Use an existing ArcGIS layer. Paste the Feature Layer URL and click Check to confirm Cartographer can read it. Use this only if you really mean to: when sync starts, Cartographer deletes all existing data in that layer and may add or remove columns so the schema matches the Cartographer source.
When you're happy, click Create integration. Cartographer creates the integration in a paused state and takes you to its page — the Filters & Start step.
Step 4 — Filters & Start
This is the integration's own page, where you can:
- fine-tune filters and notifications — see Integration Settings, and
- start syncing when you're ready — see Starting and Stopping Sync.
Nothing is sent to ArcGIS until you press Start, so take your time setting the filters first.
