Upcoming Release: Simplified Roles

· All updates

In a couple of months we'll be taking a first step towards simplifying the way roles and permissions work:

  1. We're replacing the user admin role with a new role called workspace admin. In addition to being able to manage user accounts, workspace admins will also get admin-level access to all surveys and maps in the workspace. This will give admins a much-needed overview of what's going on!
  2. We're removing the survey downloader role and merging the ability to download surveys into the survey viewer role.
  3. We're removing the map viewer role for private maps and rolling access into the survey viewer role on the corresponding survey.
  4. We're intelligently grouping roles for related survey forms. For example, if you have two closely related survey forms in your workspace and you grant someone surveyor permission on one of them, they'll automatically receive the same permission on the other.

We'll be rolling out these changes on Monday 13th February. We'll automatically upgrade peoples' accounts and grant any missing role on this date.

This simplification is a precursor to the imminent roll out of new features called projects and teams. These will further improve and simplify user management for everyone on Cartographer. Watch this space for more announcements!
