Many survey forms have places to attach photographs and other files. In the app you can take a photo with your camera, choose one from your Photos app (iPhone and iPad) or Gallery (Android), or choose any file from your Files.
Adding a Photo#
- Find the photo question in the form. It shows Add a photo or a row of thumbnails.
- Tap the add button.
- Choose where the photo comes from:
- Take Photo... to use your camera.
- Choose from Photos... (iPhone and iPad) or Choose from Gallery... (Android) to pick a photo you took earlier.
- Choose from Files... to pick a file saved on your phone or in cloud storage. This works for any type of file, not just photos.
- The photo appears as a thumbnail. Repeat to add more photos, one at a time, if the question allows it.
The first time you do this, the app asks for permission to use your camera, Photos or Gallery, first with its own message and then with your phone's own prompt. If you allow it, any photos you take in the app using your camera are also saved to Photos or Gallery, so you will get spare copies of them.
Viewing, Labelling and Removing Photos#
Tap a thumbnail to view the photo and its details, such as its filename. Tap Close to return to the survey form.
To remove a photo, tap Delete. The app asks you to confirm, and offers to save a copy first:
- Save to Photos and Delete (iPhone and iPad) or Save to Gallery and Delete (Android) keeps a copy in Photos or Gallery.
- Save to Files and Delete asks you to choose a folder in Files for the copy.
- Delete Without Saving removes the photo with no copy. There is no undo.
If you change your mind later, add the saved copy back to the survey with Choose from Photos..., Choose from Gallery... or Choose from Files....
Uploading Photos#
Photos are uploaded at full size, separately from the survey they belong to. The survey goes first, then its photos one by one, so a survey can appear on the web site a little before its photos do.
Photos can take a while to upload on a slow connection. Upload them on wifi if you can, and keep the app open until the status line under the title bar says Online. See Checking Uploads and Sync Status.
Photos attached to existing surveys are downloaded the first time you open the survey, so open it while you're online if you'll need to see them in the field.
