A Survey Says It Was Deleted or Moved on the Server

Occasionally a survey's row in the survey list gains a warning icon and starts with This survey was deleted on the server. or This survey was moved to another project on the server. This page explains what happened and what to do.

What Happened#

You made changes to the survey on your device, and before they were uploaded someone deleted the survey on the Cartographer web site, or moved it to a different project. The app never discards your work on the server's say-so, so it keeps your version and holds its upload. On the Uploads screen the upload shows as held.

What to Do#

Tap the survey. Instead of opening, the app explains the situation and offers three choices:

  • Edit opens your version so you can look at it or carry on working. The upload stays held.
  • Re-upload as a new survey sends your version to our servers as a brand-new survey in this project, photos included. Choose this if the survey was deleted by mistake, or if you want your work kept regardless.
  • Delete discards your changes and removes the survey from your device. Choose this if the deletion or move was intended and your changes aren't needed.

If you're not sure which to choose, ask your project coordinator what happened to the survey before deciding. The held survey is safe on your device in the meantime.

If the survey is restored, or moved back into the project, on the web site, the warning clears by itself the next time the app refreshes, and the held upload goes ahead.
